PALACE THEATRE PAIGNTON
Bringing new energy to a historic theatre
OUR WORK > PALACE THEATRE PAIGNTON
Brand refresh, marketing materials and ongoing creative support
The Palace Theatre had been entertaining audiences in Paignton for generations, but the team had ambitious plans for its future.
Maureen and Deirdre wanted more people to recognise the Palace as a vibrant, welcoming venue offering far more than traditional theatre.
With live music, comedy, family entertainment and events all taking place under one roof, the theatre needed an identity that could capture its energy and communicate the variety of experiences on offer.
We helped give the Palace Theatre a fresh, distinctive presence that brought its personality to life, created greater consistency and supported the team as they introduced the venue to a wider audience.
The result was a theatre brand ready to take centre stage.
The project at a glance
Client: Palace Theatre Paignton
Sector: Arts, culture and entertainment
Support: Brand refresh, logo development, seasonal brochures, posters, event promotions, ticket wallets, membership cards, stationery and display materials
Goal: Reposition the theatre as a lively, inclusive entertainment venue and attract a broader audience
A much-loved theatre with bigger ambitions
The Palace Theatre was already an important part of Paignton’s cultural life.
It had history, character and a loyal audience, but Maureen and Deirdre could see the potential for much more.
Their vision was to establish the Palace as a thriving entertainment destination: somewhere people could enjoy theatre, live music, comedy and family shows, as well as attend private and corporate events.
The challenge was that the theatre’s existing identity didn’t fully reflect this changing programme or the energy of the team behind it.
Without a strong and consistent visual presence, it was difficult to communicate the variety of entertainment available or compete for attention in a busy leisure market.
The Palace Theatre needed a brand that respected its heritage while showing audiences that something exciting was happening.
Giving the Palace a personality as lively as its programme
We worked closely with Maureen and Deirdre to understand their ambitions for the theatre and the experience they wanted to create.
The refreshed identity needed to feel cultural without becoming formal, professional without losing its warmth, and energetic enough to represent everything from drama and comedy to live music and family entertainment.
We developed a confident, engaging look that helped the Palace feel accessible to a broader audience.
The refreshed branding brought more personality to the theatre and created a flexible visual foundation that could work across different productions, events and communications.
It gave the Palace a clearer voice and helped show that this was not simply a traditional theatre, but a welcoming venue with something for everyone.
Turning the programme into an invitation
With performances changing throughout the year, the Palace needed a clear and engaging way to promote what was coming next.
We designed seasonal brochures that brought together the theatre’s varied programme in an attractive and easy-to-explore format.
Each brochure needed to give individual productions their moment in the spotlight while still feeling unmistakably part of the Palace Theatre brand.
The design helped audiences discover new shows, understand the breadth of entertainment available and plan future visits.
Rather than simply presenting a list of performances, the brochures became an invitation to experience everything the Palace had to offer.
Creating consistency beyond the stage
A strong theatre brand has to work across every point of contact, from the first poster someone notices to the ticket they carry through the door.
We created a range of supporting materials, including promotional posters, event graphics, branded stationery, ticket wallets, membership cards and pop-up banners.
Each element was designed to feel connected, helping the theatre present a professional and recognisable identity wherever audiences encountered it.
The ticket wallets and membership cards also brought the refreshed brand into the visitor experience, while the promotional materials gave the team practical tools for building awareness and encouraging repeat visits.
With everything working together, the theatre could communicate more confidently and consistently.
A new lease of life for a historic venue
Following the rebrand, the Palace Theatre continued to grow as a lively cultural hub for Paignton and the wider community.
The theatre welcomed a more diverse programme of performances and expanded its event offering, including private and corporate bookings.
Its work was also recognised through the English Riviera Tourism Awards for Access and Inclusivity and Tourism Innovation, alongside an award for Best Live Performance Theatre in the Family and Visitor Attraction Awards.
These achievements reflected the passion and hard work of the Palace Theatre team.
The refreshed brand helped ensure that the theatre’s public presence matched that ambition, giving the team a stronger platform from which to promote performances, welcome new visitors and create future opportunities.
Most importantly, the Palace felt full of energy again.
“Working with Frankman has given the Palace Theatre a new lease of life and energy.”
Is your brand still playing the same old part?
Your organisation may have evolved, expanded its services or found new audiences, while its identity has remained firmly in the past.
When that happens, people don’t always see the full experience you can offer or understand where you’re going next.
We can help you create a brand and marketing materials that reflect your ambitions, connect with the right audience and give your organisation renewed energy.
